Visits are weather-dependent

The experience is fully outdoors, with no covered shelter on site. If conditions look unsafe, we'll be in touch as soon as we know to reschedule — no penalty. Light rain is usually fine; the bees are calmer in cooler weather.

Things people ask.

If you have a question that isn't here, drop it in the form or send it on WhatsApp.

Is it safe? I've never been near a hive.

Yes. The briefing covers what bees actually do, why they sting (rarely), and how to behave around them. We provide full beekeeping suits — the same ones we wear — and we open the hives with a smoker that calms the colony.

Is it suitable for children?

Yes. Children's price (under 12) is €27.50. We size the suits down to fit them and pace the briefing so they can keep up. If you have a child who's especially anxious about insects, send us a note in the form and we'll talk it through.

What should I wear?

Closed shoes, long trousers, and layers — Azorean weather changes its mind. The suit goes over your clothes. Light colours under the suit are slightly preferable to dark, but it's not strict. Sunglasses and sunscreen if it's bright; the apiary is in open meadow.

Is there a bathroom on site?

No. The experience is fully outdoors and there's no covered shelter or bathroom at the apiary. Plan a stop on the way and you'll be comfortable for the whole visit.

What if it rains?

We work with the weather, not against it. Light rain is usually fine — the bees are calmer in cooler conditions. If conditions look genuinely unsafe (heavy rain, strong wind), we'll be in touch as soon as we know to reschedule, sometimes the day before, sometimes the morning of. No penalty either way.

What if I'm allergic to bee stings?

If you have a confirmed severe allergy (anaphylaxis), we'd recommend not booking the in-hive experience for safety reasons. If you're unsure or have a mild reaction, mention it in the form and we'll talk it through.

How do I pay?

Once we confirm your date, we'll send payment details with the booking confirmation.
